First Trip

On Saturday we made our first trip of the year over to our property. It was extra exciting because we were putting our boat in the water for the first time. Do you think Alex was happy?

Sadly, we found this when we arrived at our lot...

Guess surprises like this are to be expected. We didn't have the chainsaw with us so dealing with this will be a project for another day. Luckily the tree wasn't actually on the dock so we were able to put the dock in the water and tie the boat up.  We played with a few locations for the dock and ended up moving it to a new spot to take advantage of a better view.  Not too shabby...

I finally got to see the clearing the guys did last summer. It's really amazing how quickly the poplar trees spring back up. I think that will be a constant battle.

After we took a tour of the island and the guys did a little fishing... first fish in the boat was a pike.

The crazy thing about this trip is that at Matt's parents cottage, just 30 minutes away, we were being eaten alive by blackflies. But here on our lake - they were a non issue. I hope it stays that way!
